Ilyonectria robusta PMI_751 (1113390)

Ilyonectria robusta and other Ilyonectria spp. are common soil fungi, non-symptomatic root endophytes, and opportunistic plant root pathogens1. In order to understand their function in forest soils, genome data of of these and other common root-associated fungi are necessary to provide a reference database for studying metagenomics of rhizosphere plant-fungal interactions.

Ilyonectria robusta PMI_751 was isolated as an endophyte from Populus trichocarpa roots. I. robusta is also frequently reported as a root rot pathogen of grapevine, but has also been isolated from other tree hosts including Populus, Quercus, Tilia, Panax, and Prunus. Ilyonectria is one of many genera in the Neonectria complex2,3. Strains of this species produce both microconidia and macroconidia. Brown thick-walled chlamydospores are also abundantly formed in older cultures3. Concentric pigmented bands often appear in cultures grown on potato dextrose agar.
