The genome sequence and gene prediction of Pichia kudriavzevii CBS573 have not been determined by the Joint Genome Institute (JGI), but were downloaded from NCBI on Nov 25, 2018. In order to allow comparative analyses with other fungal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into Mycocosm. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by NCBI and is therefore not automatically updated. JGI tools were used to automatically annotate predicted proteins.

Pichia kudriavzevii is the teleomorph of Candida krusei. Pichia kudriavzevii reproduces sexually through the fusion of haploid cells. This species is renowned for its extraordinary ability to tolerate multiple stresses including low pH as well as clinical and agricultural fungicides. Because of these unique abilities, P. kudriavzevii may be useful as a chassis for producing renewable fuels and chemicals at an industrial scale. Some groups have already engineered P. kudriavzevii and demonstrated production of organic acids including succinate and lactate1,2. In addition to the biotechnological applications, P. kudriavzevii strains are used to produce several foods such as cocoa and cassava fermentations.
