The Spirogloea muscicola CCAC 0214 genome assembly and gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from the Cheng et al., 2019 genome supplemental data share at figshare.com on November 21, 2019. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to automatically annotate predicted proteins. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by the JGI and is therefore not automatically updated.

Spirogloea muscicola CCAC 0214

Spirogloea muscicola (Archaeplastida, Viridiplantae, Phylum Streptophyta, Family Zygnemophyceae) is one of the first sequenced members of this taxonomic family, a green alga found in subaerial/terrestrial environments associated with Bryophytes, the earliest-diverging land plants. Zynemophyceae species are important for the study of the evolution and diversification of land plants, and the transition to a terrestrial environment. Spirogloea muscicola was co-published with Mesotaenium endlicherianum SAG 12.97.

CCAC 0214 is a newly described strain of Spirogloea muscicola, from a rock surface sample collected in September 2006 by K.-H. Linne von Berg (Cologne) in the Rur Valley (Eifel, Germany) near Dreistegen/Monschau (coordinates: 50.550693, 6.222094).
