Syncephalis pseudoplumigaleata Benny S71-1 (Zoopagomycotina) is related to Piptocephalis and is approved for the 1000 Fungal Genomes project. The genus contains haustorial parasites of other zygomycetes, which utilize specialized walled cells (haustoria) to penetrate the host cell wall. All are believed to be obligate parasites.

S. pseudoplumigaleata represents one of many diverse taxa that are of high interest for the 1000 Fungal Genomes project. It has been selected as part of a Fungal single-cell genome sequencing pilot project.
