This page displays predictions of transmembrane domains in the protein coded for by the predicted gene. ClickPredicted number of transmembrane domains from the protein page to view a transmembrane domain graph.
The results include the following summary data:
- Length The length in amino acids of the protein.
- Number of predicted TMHs The number of transmembrane helices predicted by theTMHMM algorithm.
- Exp number of AAs in TMHs The expected number of amino acids in transmembrane helices. If this number is larger than 18, the gene is very likely to code for a transmembrane protein (or a protein with a signal peptide).
- Exp number, first 60 AAs The expected number of amino acids in transmembrane helices in the first 60 amino acids of the protein.
- Total prob of N-in The total probability that the N-terminus is on the cytoplasmic side of the membrane.
- POSSIBLE N-term signal sequence A warning produced when Exp number, first 60 AAs is larger than 10.
The page then lists predicted locations, along with first and last amino acid coordinates, for each domain.
The graph has three traces showing probabilities (y axis) for each position on the protein (x axis):
- The thin magenta trace indicates the probability that a domain is located outside the cell.
- The thin blue trace indicates the probability that a domain lies within the cell.
- Thesolid red trace shows the probability that a domain spans the cell membrane.
- Thethick line across the top of the graph uses the magenta/blue/red color code to display a best prediction for each domain in the protein.
