Aspergillus wentii. R.A. Samson, CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Uppsalalaan 8, 3584 CT Utrecht, The Netherlands.

This species has been used for industrial enzyme production but is also distant from all the other aspergilli sequenced so far. It is a member of the Section Cremei, from which no species has yet been genome sequenced. Therefore comparisons of genome organisation to that of other aspergilli might provide insights into the ancestral organization of the Aspergillus genome and enzyme content thereof. It has been studied for toxin production and polysaccharide degrading enzymes.
