Podospora anserina is a filamentous coprophilous (dung-colonizing) heterothallic fungus. Podospora as a model organism to study genetics, senescence, cell degeneration, ascomycete development, heterokaryon incompatibility and mitochondrial and peroxisomal physiology. Podospora is well culturable in lab and easy to manipulate using modern molecular tools.
The genome sequence and gene prediction of Podospora anserina S mat+ have not been determined by the Joint Genome Institute (JGI), but were obtained from Genoscope. In order to allow comparative analyses with other fungal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into Mycocosm. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by Genoscope and is therefore not automatically updated. JGI tools were used to automatically annotate predicted proteins.
