The genus Purpureocillium, recently described and only two species have been described for this genus: Purpureocillium lilacinum, which was classified by Luansgna et al. (2011) and has many biological, taxonomical and biotechnological studies; and P. lavendulum, described by Perdomo, et al. (2013).  Purpureocillium sp. (Strain UdeA0106) is a biocontrol agent and it’s used in the management of garden symphylians and the nematode Meloidogyne spp. in flower crops.
Symphyilans belongs to the subphylum Myriapoda and are a known plague that affects different commercial crops. The use of chemically-based pesticides to control these organisms is ineffective and the price, both monetary and environmental, is higher. However, studies carried out in recent years have shown that the strain UdeA0106 is effective both in vitro and when applied on commercial flower crops (Salazar 2015). The study of this fungi will increment the knowledge of an organisms that it’s applying in crops of agricultural importance in order to avoid the use of insecticides to control pests. The information obtained will be used for improve the actually bioformulations and the technical recommendations for its application in the crops.
