Scheffersomyces insectosa is associated with insects as other species belonging to Scheffersomyces genus. It was originally isolated from insects (Leptura maculicornis) (1). This species is remarkable for its ability to ferment xylose and it is placed in the xylose-fermenting yeasts subclade of the genus Scheffersomyces which includes S. lignosus, S. illinoinensis, S. insectosa, S. quercinus, S. segobiensis, S. stipitis, S. shehatae, and S. virginianus (2).
