Trichoderma atroviride strain F7 was produced by protoplast fusion aimed at combining in single strain the multiple desirable characters from two different Trichoderma species. Under standard growth condition (PDA, 25°C and light exposure), the mycelial culture of strain F7 grows rapidly, covering the plate surface (90 mm) in four days. The conidiation is compact, dense and concentric in development. In the early growth stages, the colony is light-green in pigmentation turning to a dark olive green over time, and developing a characteristic yellow ring of spores on the periphery. The positive effects of strain F7 were observed in in vivo experiments using different plant models (monocots and dicots) and in biocontrol assays against diverse foliar and soil-borne fungal phytopathogens. F7 outperformed its parental strains in the promotion of seed germination and plant growth as well as in eliciting plant defense responses to pathogens.
