The Ulva mutabilis Føyn genome assembly and gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from ORCAE on September 29, 2019. In order to ensure this genome is comparable to those sequenced by the JGI, we applied filters to remove if present: 1) transposable elements, 2) pseudogenes, 3) alternative transcripts and overlapping models, 4) alleles on secondary scaffolds and 5) unsupported short models. This resulted in the removal of 1854 models from U. mutabilis and generation of the FilteredModels1 (GeneCatalog) gene track. All published models are available in the ExternalModels track. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by ORCAE and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.
Ulva mutabilis Føyn
Ulva mutabilis Føyn (Archaeplastida, Viridiplantae, Phylum Chlorophyta, Class Ulvophyceae), also known as "sea lettuce," is a multicellular green seaweed. Apart from being ubiquitous in benthic communities and notorious for its bloom formations in eutrophic coastal environments, Ulva is also an exciting novel model organism for studies of algal growth, development and morphogenesis. The key reasons that Ulva is potentially such a good model system are: (i) Ulva growth is symbiotic, with proper development requiring close association with bacterial epiphytes, (ii) Ulva is extremely developmentally plastic, which can shed light on the transition from simple to complex multicellularity and (iii) Ulva will provide critical information about the molecular evolution of the green lineage which is characterized by a huge variety of cyto-morphologies.
