The genome of Mycena amicta was sequenced as part of the Mycenaceae sequencing project and the overarching JGI 1000 Fungal Genomes project “Deep Sequencing of Ecologically-relevant Dikarya“ (CSP 1974). This project will examine members of the Mycena genus to evaluate the genomic basis of their different nutritional modes.

The Coldfoot Bonnet, Mycena amicta

Mycena amicta is a member of the section Amictae (Maas Gesteranus 1988). It is known from temperate forests all over the Northern Hemisphere (Smith 1947, Aronsen and Læssøe 2016). It grows on mainly coniferous, but also on deciduous woody debris. The collection for this genome was sampled in Cumbria in Northwestern England.

Mycena amicta is relatively easily identified with its pubescent to puberulous stipe. It was chosen for sequencing as the only member of its section in order to obtain a phylogenetically representative sample of Mycena species. It has an ecology very similar to other Mycena species such as M. epipterygia, yet it is only distantly related to them. We hope to be able to elucidate aspects of convergent evolution with the genome of this species.

This genome was derived from dikaryotic (diploid) pure culture on MEA agar with ampicilin and benomyl and should be free of xenobiotic contaminations.

Researchers who wish to use data from unpublished Mycena genomes for publication are respectfully required to contact the PI and JGI to avoid potential conflicts on data use and coordinate other publications with the Mycena master paper(s).
