Sporidiobolus is a genus of Basidiomycota found in the family Sporidiobolaceae (Pucciniomycotina).
Sporidiobolus pararoseus is able to use glycerol as an alternative sole carbon source for carotenoids production in culture. Different carotenoids can be such as β-carotene or torulene can be produeced by varying culture conditions.

This genome was sequenced as part of the 1000 fungal genomes project.
